PATTERN | LAL SHORTS

The wide, casual LAL shorts are great for warm summer days. They are worked in a simple dotted pattern of knit and purl stitches.
You start with the legs worked separately, then you join them at the gusset and continue knitting them in the round. For shaping, decreases at the front and back centre are made. The upper edge is finished with a broad ribbed waistband, into which an elastic band and a cord are pulled through to adjust the width of the shorts.

Nepal is a beautifully vegan yarn made with cotton, linen and nettle which makes it quite robust and, therefore, particularly suitable for shorts. It is also is soft, light and supple. It is particularly comfortable to wear in summer.

The sizes correspond to waist circumference as follows: XS (S/M; L/XL; XXL) = 22.8 (26 – 29.1; 32.3 – 36.2; 41.3)” / 58 (66 – 74; 82 – 92; 105) cm waist circumference (measured at the body).The shorts are designed to fit very generously around the hips, so the waist measurements are used to determine the correct size. Example: If you have a waist measurement of 29.1” (74 cm), then knit the shorts in size M and they will fit tightly at the waist. 

You need:

4 (5; 6; 7) x 50 g (1.76 oz) Pascuali Nepal (60% cotton, 40% linen) in the chosen colour
Colour of the pictured sample: colour #21 (Apple)

US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle, 32 – 40” (80 – 100 cm)
US 2.5 (3 mm) circular needle, 32” (80 cm) for the waistband or needle sizes required to get gauge
Elastic band, 1.4” (3.5 cm) wide, length according to your waist
Stitch markers
Stitch holder or waste yarn
A French Knitter or two US 4 (3.5 mm) DPNs for knitting the cord
Tapestry needle and scissors
