Saffira

Saffira is a yarn that was inspired by the sensuous shine of a sapphire, a precious gem that comes in a variety of blue hues and has often been a royal choice strongly competing with diamonds in the world of jewellery design.
Saffira first made its appearance in the Pascuali range in 2018 with a vibrant colour palette that included breath-taking, sapphire blue and green shades resembling those of this magnificent stone.

SAFFIRA

Saffira is a yarn of pure luxury: a blend of the finest merino wool fibers and glossy mulberry silk. The harmonious fusion of these high-quality materials imparts not only exceptional softness but also a noble sheen and delightful lightness to every knitting project.

Saffira – A Jewel Among Luxury Yarns!

Just like the gem that has inspired it, Saffira is a very luxurious blend of the highest quality merino yarn and mulberry silk.

Merino wool is one of the finest and most exclusive fibres available due to its unique shine and softness. Our merino wool is of course mulesing-free. It comes from Argentina (Patagonia) and is GOTS-certified. This means that the animals are kept according to ecological standards, the working environment is safe, workers receive fair pay, and there is no child labour or excessive working hours.  This is done through regular inspections of the entire supply chain; from the farms to the washing, spinning and dyeing processes to bring you a fibre that is 100 % organic.

Merino wool is highly breathable and has excellent thermoregulating properties: the fabric easily traps in air and retains heat when temperatures are cold and humid. Unlike regular wool, it is naturally lighter and softer, so it is not scratchy and can be worn directly on the skin.

It is, however, the mulberry silk, which has been known for over 5000 years as the “queen of textiles,” that gives Saffira its ultimate luxurious characteristics both in look and feel.  To quote Oscar de la Renta, “Silk does for the body what diamonds do for the hand.” Even though Mulberry silk is a very delicate fibre it is also very strong. It is particularly smooth and soft so it can be worn directly on the skin.  Silk gives Saffira its glossy touch. It also makes it strong, and supple with an excellent drape.

Saffira is spun for us in Italy by a renowned spinning mill with which we have been working for many years following the highest European standards so that no toxic bleaches, dyes or other chemicals are used in the manufacturing of the yarn.

Unique, Beautiful Colours!

In 2022, we gave Saffira a completely new look by adding contemporary, fancy shades to its colour palette. Because of silk's unique sheen, Saffira´s 20 colours radiate and assume a unique luminescent characteristic.

The long, strong fibres of Saffira make it particularly suitable for supple clothing that lasts for years and provides comfortable, stylish, casual and functional wear, all in one. Thanks to its moisture-wicking properties, Saffira cools and warms simultaneously. Therefore, garments knitted with Saffira are perfect for summer and winter. It is a natural yarn that is completely bio-degradable.  It is also wrinkle and tear resistant, hypo-allergenic and very easy to care for.

Saffira+Manada create a knitted masterpiece in your wardrobe.

To compliment your knitting project and make it even more wonderful, we suggest you pair Saffira with Manada, our very special and unique blend of Mohair, Mulberry Silk, Yak and Merino fibres. By pairing these two yarns together, you will add a wonderful fluff and airy halo to your project, not to mention softness, warmth and, of course, a very particular and unique colour nuance depending on whether you use similar colours or contrasting ones to mix and match together.
